Emergency First Aid at Work Training

The Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work Training (EFAW) course equips learners with the skills and confidence to respond effectively to workplace accidents and medical emergencies.

 

All learners will gain the knowledge required to become competent Emergency First Aiders, capable of treating casualties safely, promptly, and effectively.

 


 

Course Duration

 

The course requires a minimum of six contact hours in the classroom. This includes a mix of practical and theoretical activities.

 

Ideally, the course is delivered in one full day, but it can be spread over a maximum of four weeks. Each training session must last at least two hours to ensure adequate coverage of all topics. Online blended course options are also available for this course, which incorporate 2 hours of online learning which can be spread out over six weeks via our interactive and engaging portal system, followed by a 4 hour face to face practical session. Syllabus for Emergency First Aid At Work

 

The EFAW course covers a wide range of subjects, including:

 

  Responsibilities and reporting  |  Assessment of the situation

  Dealing with an unresponsive casualty  |  Basic hygiene in First Aid

  Resuscitation and AED awareness  |  Anatomy

  Minor injuries  |  Burns

  Choking  |  Epilepsy

  Bleeding control  |  Shock

 

This mix of topics ensures learners are prepared for common workplace emergencies and can respond safely and effectively.

 


 

Assessment and Certification

 

Practical assessments are conducted ongoing by the instructor throughout the course. Learners who meet all assessment criteria will receive a three-year qualification.

 

The HSE strongly recommends that all Emergency First Aiders complete a three-hour annual refresher to maintain competence and confidence.

 


 

Numbers and Eligibility

 

    • Maximum learners per course: 12

 

    • Minimum age: 14 years

 

Students cannot assume workplace responsibility until they turn 16. After that, the employer must ensure suitability for the role.

 

The certificate will expire on the date listed, regardless of the learner’s age.
